Had this Chilean wine at a wine dinner at Morris Tap & Grill and really enjoyed its boldness and food-friendliness.

On the nose, the 2009 Tamaya Reserva Carmenere offers potent aromas of ripe raspberries with spicy and coffee notes.  On the palate, it’s a huge mouthful of rich, concentrated dark berries with a long spicy/peppery finish.

Pairings:  Grilled beef or lamb.  Sharp cheese dishes.

2009 Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon Colchagua Valley

Served this little gem as my second with some prime ribeyes this weekend and was pleased with the pairing.

In the glass, the 2009 Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon Colchagua Valley is deep garnet.  On the nose, it’s bright on the dark cherries with some stone fruit and pumpkin pie spice.  In the mouth, this project wine by Barons de Rothschild Lafite is peppy on the fruit and offers rounded tannins and a good level of acidity that makes it really enjoyable.

Super for a young Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon and at an incredible price point.

If you’re into a smoky, spicy, leathery, big, full-bodied wine, this 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier winner is for you.

I was given this bottle to sample and really enjoyed it.  I look forward to stocking up on it as it’s an affordable, crowd-pleasing wine.

Wine Spectator rated this Chilean wine 90 points.
